Travelling to Bute

The Island is a very popular  holiday destination and is connected to the mainland via Caledonian MacBrayne Hebridean & Clyde Ferries. The current drive-on / drive-off ferries, between Wemyss Bay & Rothesay, The Bute & The Argyll were only built in recent years. They replaced the wonderful old "Streakers", The Juno The Saturn & The Jupiter which had served the Island so well over so many years.
Guests approaching Bute via Colintraive to Rhubodach, travel on The Dunvegan running every 30 minutes  and the crossing takes  5 minutes approx.

Once on Bute, during the summer months, a day trip on the last Ocean going paddle steamer, The Waverley, is an experience not to be missed. The Waverley is a popular tourist attraction as it offers an alternative means of transport for passengers on foot, across to this beautiful isle. It also maintains a busy schedule between Bute, Arran and the mainland.

There is an Open Top double decker bus which gives visitors wonderful tours of the Island, and the views from the top deck of the magnificent scenery are a joy.
