Directions By Car There are a variety of websites that we could recommend. The AA Route Planner is a available here. Use postcode PA20 9NW. For a road map, either use the map below or click here to go to Google maps. By Train There is a regular train connection between Wemyss Bay and Glasgow. Details are available on the Scotrail website here. Ferry Services The Island is a very popular holiday destination and is connected to the mainland via Calmac Ferries and Clyde Ferries. The current drive-on / drive-off ferries, between Wemyss Bay & Rothesay, "The Bute" & "The Argyll" were only built in recent years. They replaced the wonderful old "Streakers", "The Juno", "The Saturn" & "The Jupiter" which had served the Island so well over so many years. Guests can also use the Colintraive to Rhubodach crossing where "The Dunvegan" runs every 30 minutes and the crossing takes 5 minutes approx. The route map is available here, bookings can be made here. Once on Bute, during the summer months, a day trip on the last Ocean going paddle steamer, The Waverley, is an experience not to be missed. The Waverley is a popular tourist attraction as it offers an alternative means of transport for passengers on foot, across to this beautiful isle. It also maintains a busy schedule between Bute, Arran and the mainland. The timetable can be found here. Air Travel Glasgow and Prestwick airports are only 30 minutes from Glasgow where you can get a train to Wemyess Bay or hire a car. On the Island There is an excellent bus service across the island, details here. Alternatively there is also an efficient taxi firm, details here. Google Street view: |
